An Overview of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy

Dr. Soloman Shah MD
Soloman Shah, MD, is a practicing gastroenterologist in Fairfax, Virginia. Dr. Solomon Shah has worked for Gastrointestinal Medicine Associates, PC (GMA), for more than 15 years. He is also a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE). Gastrointestinal endoscopy refers to the procedure doctors use to view the inside lining of a person's esophagus.
The ASGE was founded in 1941. The goals of the organization have remained the same throughout its existence: to promote high standards for endoscopic training, to support endoscopic research, and to recognize valuable contributions to the field of endoscopy. The ASGE is made up of more than 14,000 members with professional experience in endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, and endoscopic ultrasound technology.
The ASGE is unique among medical societies in that its active members are required to give documentation that proves they have been trained in gastrointestinal procedures. However, there are a variety of special ASGE memberships available for trainees, associates, and students who do have not met the documentation requirement.
